The town of Surgeres has a historic centre with 16th Century fortifications.  Niort is the nearest large town to the Logis and has an attractive central area with many fine buildings and an excellent food market.
La Rochelle is a 30 minute drive from the Logis.  A popular destination for visiting yachtsmen and holiday makers. The attractive area around the old harbour has various interesting bars and restaurants. There are beaches close to the town.  Ile de Re is reached by bridge from La Rochelle and is a popular holiday retreat for the French elite.  The island has many fine beaches and picturesque villages with good bars and restaurants.
